In 2017, Real Restoration entered into Mumbai, India with a small team that brings the gospel of hope to sexually exploited women. Not only do they bring hope, but also offer solutions to the very difficult arena of brothel life. Beena and Kamboi work with Real Restoration in Mumbai, formerly Bombay. We are in communication sometimes daily, to pray with them, encourage them, be encouraged, and simply listen to what is going on, and act on opportunities. Opportunities of hope.
Mumbai is a trafficking destination point in Central Asia on the west coast of India. Quite often the flow of girls are from villages in India and beyond. Girls come from Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Bhutan.
Shanti’s “society” in Nepal knew she had been in the sex trade in Mumbai, and therefore was not accepted in her community. Shanti somehow managed to survive in Nepal for a few years; however, due to the economic condition of that country, she migrated to Malaysia for 3 years.
What do you do when you are desperate? Sometimes just try to survive.
Shanti came back to Mumbai and actually functioned as a brothel keeper. Of course that meant she worked herself. She picked up a disease, that has taken its toll on her body. Beena started to develop a relationship with Shanti and found out that her entire family in Nepal are believers in the Lord Jesus. Even Shanti knows about Jesus.
Shanti had a dream twice. In her dream, someone is showing her a very clean and clear path. And someone is asking her to walk on that path. Shanti told Beena that she believes Jesus is telling her to take the path and leave the dirty work of prostitution (Shanti’s words).
When someone leaves sex work permanently, there are typically a variety of rabbit trails to get out. One of them is health care. Shanti does not have Aids, but another transmitted disease.
She has told Beena that she wants to go back to Nepal, and have a final medical treatment. Right now we need about $475 USD for her medication and travel expenses back to Nepal. God has used Beena to encourage Shanti to return back to Nepal and start fresh, leaving the sex trade for good.
Laxmi is on her way to a new life!!!
Laxmi, 30, is from the state of Andra Pradesh India. When she was 14 years old she was sold for prostitution. She worked for 2 years without pay. When Laxmi was 16 years old, one of her clients helped her to run away from the red light area. She married the client even though he was twice her age. Later she found out he was a married man with 3 children. Laxmi also became pregnant.
Laxmi could not manage to stay with her husband in a same house where his first wife and children also lived. She convinced her husband that she wanted to go back into sex work. He agreed. So laxmi worked for 12 more years in prostitution.
We met her as we were visiting we were visiting her red light area the other day. We shared the gospel and encouraged her to leave sex work. She opened up to us and said she was not getting any clients recently. We sensed God's presence in the conversation. Next thing we knew, she asked us to help her move out from the red light area.
She told us she wants to learn tailoring. We share efforts with an organization which helps the sex worker for rehabilitation. They also provide the ladies with different trainings such as tailoring, adult literacy class, beautician course and life skills. Jesus found a career opportunity for Laxmi.
We thank God for Laxmi. She is ready to start her new life. She has been hearing the word of God, and joining us in prayer. Will you pray with us that Laxmi comes to know Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour. Also let's pray for her that she will be able to adjust new place and training as well.
Your support has opened the doors for Laxmi. Thank you. We love you.
